About Building 202 and the Biosphere

Building 202 is part of a new building complex on the Lyngby Campus, DTU build to be a center for engineering research, education, innovation and advice based on life sciences. The project is DTU’s largest construction project, which includes new construction and redevelopment of about 42,000 m2.

The building houses more than 250 specialized laboratories and world-class teaching facilities. Today, more than 650 employees work in the buildings. The research covers areas such as sustainable utilization of marine resources, value-added solutions in food and health, food safety, antibiotic resistance, control of animal diseases and development of vaccines.

The heart of the newly built part of the building complex (building 202) is the Biosphere, a three-story high-wooded atrium where meeting rooms project out from the floors and form a unique and distinctive space with common areas, canteen and café area. The biosphere will provide the framework for the social meeting places and academic exchanges between researchers, students, partners and guests. The open, bright atrium creates visual contact with researchers and staff on the floors above, thus supporting the vision of openness and knowledge sharing across disciplines.
