LUT University
ELMO-LION is a new European PhD course and Summer School in Li battery technology and innovation, offering 6 ECTS credits. The program is co-funded by EIT RawMaterials and consists of three comprehensive modules:
- Module 1: Online Lectures
Beginning in March 2025, this module includes eight 2-hour lectures delivered by renowned experts in the battery field. Topics covered include the synthesis of battery materials, spectroscopic studies, first-principles modeling, diagnostics and operation, reuse and recycling, and the battery market.
- Module 2: Project Work
Starting in April 2025, this module involves ten project topics selected based on the current needs of industrial partners. Students will develop solutions by analyzing available literature and generating their ideas, all under the guidance of mentors. The work will be conducted remotely, and findings will be documented in a report.
- Module 3: Summer School
Scheduled for August 2025 in Italy, this five-day module includes lectures and seminars from industry and academic partners, with a focus on applying for startup funding. Students will also work on project development under the supervision of industry and academic mentors and finalize startup applications.
Registration for the course opens in October 2024. Each modules provides 2 credits.
The ELMO-LION course is designed to cover a broad range of competencies related to Li battery research, manufacturing, and market trends. The multidisciplinary nature of this topic necessitates a comprehensive educational approach. The course has been designed in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners to align with the latest trends in Li battery development. As a result, numerous collaborators from across Europe are involved in refining the course, enhancing its appeal to students and its potential for attracting new partners. The official certificate from LUT, offering 2-6 credits, makes the course suitable for inclusion in the study plans of many universities worldwide, facilitating the integration of the ELMO-LION course into diverse academic programs.
ELMO-LION main partners are Aalto University, EMPA, Politechnico di Milano, University of Padova, Delft University of Technology, University of Eastern Finland, University of Helsinki, University of Oulu, Centro Ricerche Fiat, Metso Outotec, LUT University.
